Emerton Leisure Centre has been named as Small Swim School of the Year (NSW) at the 2008 Austswim NSW Water Safety Awards on September 25.

Presented by Olympic champion Brooke Hansen, the award recognises the contribution the centre has made to the community in providing innovative, accessible and high-quality water education programs.

''This is a great achievement for Emerton Leisure Centre and its staff,'' said Blacktown mayor Charlie Lowles.

''To have achieved this milestone in such a short time since its opening is a credit to the swim school teachers and the swim school program on offer at the centre.''

Emerton Swim School caters for children from six months old to adults and each program coincides with NSW school terms.

Lessons are available from Monday to Saturday with a choice of morning or afternoon sessions.

Led by accredited instructors, the centre's swim school has been developed in conjunction with Royal Life Saving's Swim and Survive program, which offers skills in swimming, water safety and survival in preparation for a lifetime of safe activity in, or near the water.

The term 4 swim school starts on Monday, October 13. To enrol call the centre on 96287016. The centre is at 35 Jersey Road, Emerton.
